United By Family: Canal and River Trust

Canal and River Trust are the charity who play a central role in helping people live a happier, healthier life by looking after and bringing to life 2,000 miles of waterways across the UK.

Once at the heart of the industrial revolution, they are now used to deliver a Community Activity and Wellbeing Programme, reaching out to communities across the region. With events and taster sessions in fishing, performing, running, walking, cycling and paddling they create a real benefit from our green and blue spaces. There are opportunities for everyone to access regular physical activity, as well as getting involved through volunteering and caring for our environment.

Across the West Midlands 520 miles of canals weave their way through richly vibrant and culturally diverse communities. Around 1.75 million people live within 1km of the waterways and just over half of Birmingham’s population are within walking distance of their local canal. Canal and River Trust are here to help you find your local canal and experience heritage, nature and wellbeing on the doorstep of your community.
