With the Coronation Concert 2023 at Windsor Castle being announced and excitement filling those who can attend, United by 2022 Legacy Charity had the pleasure of nominating young people who deserved recognition to be invited to attend the historic event. Those who were successful for the nomination process and got an official invite shared their experiences of the special day with us.
Chloe Flower and Amy Fletcher were both part of our Gen22 Consultation group and they played a significant role in shaping the programme. For the Ideas Made Real small grants project, part of Gen22, they sat on the panel as ‘dragons’ to score other young people’s social action projects. They both benefited from the experience and found it massively boosted their confidence to continue to their journeys.
Following their involvement with the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, Chloe was nominated for the Student of the Year award as part of the first Birmingham Inspirational Youth Awards. She was shortlisted and became a finalist.
“Attending the Birmingham Inspirational Youth Awards where I was a finalist allowed me to meet so many inspirational young people. Another amazing opportunity I will never forget.”
Chloe has continued with her education since the Commonwealth Games and has been given a conditional offer to study Paramedic Science at BCU. Amy is currently working and developing further in hospitality and gaining more skills and confidence.
They were nominated to attend the Coronation Concert and let us know about their experience on the day:
“A week before the Coronation celebrations commenced, both myself (Chloe) and Amy, received an email informing us that we have been invited to attend the Coronation Concert being held on the grounds of Windsor Castle. At first, I didn’t believe it, I was in shock that I had been nominated to attend such a huge event in our country’s history.
Amy and I both travelled to Windsor the day after the Coronation of King Charles and the Queen. Whilst we were queuing and waiting for 7 hours we met so many wonderful people! The atmosphere was spectacular, and it was amazing to meet and celebrate with individuals from all over the UK and different parts of the Commonwealth.
The concert started at 8pm and this is where the celebrations begun. Big stars such as Olly Murs, Take That, Katy Perry and even Lionel Richie performed. The huge crowd was all brought together by music to celebrate this moment in history. Throughout the concert there were also special guests and even Prince William did a speech himself in which he said thank you to the 20,000 people in the crowd for making in what he described as “a special evening”. The concert was amazing to experience, it felt such an honour to be nominated and to be part of the crowd for the first ever concert held in the grounds of Windsor Castle. I would like to say thank you to United By 2022 for nominating myself and Amy and for all the opportunities we have been given.
It will be a night I will never forget! ”
