The Return of Birmingham Light Festival

Birmingham is set to glow this Valentine’s Weekend: United by 2022 Volunteers Return for Birmingham Light Festival 2026

We’re thrilled to announce that United By 2022 volunteers will once again help to bring Birmingham Light Festival to life when it returns from 12–15 February 2026. Following the success of last year’s spectacular debut, the festival will return over Valentine’s weekend to transform the city centre into a glowing celebration of creativity, community, and connection — and our volunteers will be right at the heart of it.

In 2025, 48 United By 2022 volunteers helped illuminate Birmingham’s streets, welcoming over 64,000 visitors across four nights of light, art and joy. From managing queues at the Silent Disco to guiding families between installations, their energy and warmth ensured every visitor had a memorable experience. Over 97% of volunteers said they’d love to return – and we’re delighted to make that happen!

For many, volunteering at the festival was a chance to build confidence, connect with others and see their city in a whole new light. As one volunteer shared, “I loved interacting with the public, especially the children – everyone left smiling.” Another told us, “Even when it rained, people kept dancing. Nothing stopped them, it was magic!”

This year’s event promises to be even bigger and brighter, with new locations including the Bullring and Edgbaston Village, plus fresh opportunities for local artists and businesses to get involved. Once again, our volunteers will play a key role in supporting the festival’s creative team, engaging visitors and showcasing the very best of Birmingham’s spirit.

For us at United By 2022, Birmingham Light Festival perfectly captures what we’re all about: celebrating community, creating opportunities and keeping the legacy of 2022 alive. We can’t wait to see our volunteers helping to make this year’s festival shine even brighter.
